This RFA supports rural Virginia health care organizations in adopting or expanding digital productivity tools—including decision support, documentation, and workflow automation (including AI solutions)—to return provider time to care, reduce burnout, and strengthen operational sustainability. Successful applicants will implement or expand proven technologies that reduce administrative burden, document measurable improvements in provider time savings, and support workforce retention. Funded projects must track and report metrics including adoption rates, time savings, impact on revenue/billable services, and reduction in clinician burnout. VHCF will provide technical assistance and expects awardees to participate in program evaluation and reporting. Projects must serve FORHP-designated rural Virginia communities, with partnerships documented by formal letters/MOUs where applicable.
Eligible applicants must be legally organized entities in good standing (including nonprofit, governmental, Tribal, hospital/health system, independent practice, free/hybrid or charitable clinic, federally qualified health center, rural health clinic, or educational institution) capable of receiving federal subaward funding. Applicants must hold active SAM.gov registration (no exclusions/debarments/suspensions), and be physically located in or provide direct services to FORHP-designated rural Virginia communities. Associations or convening entities may apply on behalf of provider groups with formal MOUs/letters of support for each participant.
