The program aims to address shortages in rural and underserved communities by supporting the planning or implementation of new residency slots or programs accredited by ACGME. Minnesota appropriated $1.9 million for FY2027, with estimated awards of $75,000 to $400,000. Priority is given to programs that place graduates in rural or underserved Minnesota communities and support health equity.
Programs, sponsors, and potential sponsors of primary care residency positions located in Minnesota who train or propose to train medical residents in family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, psychiatry (including child psychiatry fellowships), geriatrics, or general surgery. Applicants must either have ACGME accreditation or submit a credible plan to achieve accreditation. Applicants must propose to plan or implement new residency slots and agree to maintain baseline resident numbers and verify annually. Collaboration is permitted but not required. See RFP for additional details.
